Committee authorizes one-year morgue contract with Albany Medical Center
Summary
Washington County’s Public Safety Committee authorized a one-year morgue services contract with Albany Medical Center and approved a waiver from county procurement rules after the coroner said urgent cases recently required Albany Med’s services.
The Washington County Public Safety Committee on May 26 authorized a one-year contract with Albany Medical Center for morgue services and approved a waiver from the county procurement policy to allow the agreement.
Coroner Robert Lemieux told the committee a case in April required immediate use of Albany Med’s facilities and that Albany Med had not maintained a standing contract with the county in recent years because many cases had been handled by Glens Falls Hospital. Lemieux said Albany Med’s services are still needed for some serious caseloads and that having a contract would ensure access when more than twenty cases require transfer there.
Mr. O’Brien moved to authorize the chairman to sign the contract; Mr. Herrick seconded the motion and the committee adopted it. Mr. Hahn moved, and Mr. Herrick seconded, a separate motion to approve a procurement-policy waiver allowing the county to contract with Albany Med; that motion was also adopted.
The contract approved at the committee level is for one year. The committee did not provide detailed financial terms in the meeting minutes.
