The township authorized asbestos abatement and demolition of the former municipal building at 109 East Union Road, awarding the asbestos contract to Kane Specialty Group for $8,200 and the demolition contract to Deller Professional Services for $28,750.
Mr. Shoup explained the procurement: bids were opened and categorized for asbestos removal and for demolition. He told the Board that after demolition the contractor must grade the site, provide clean fill, ensure proper drainage and reseed the parcel so the site will be prepped for future use.
Mr. Hollibaugh asked whether the site would receive topsoil or gravel for parking; Mr. Shoup replied the demolition award requires clean fill and reseeding and that additional site work such as gravel could be considered later. Manager Mator advised the total cost (asbestos plus demolition) is about $37,000 and described the grant relationship: the County MAP grant originally applied for covers demolition/abatement and a dog‑shelter renovation; if the grant scope is adjusted the township can reallocate the grant to cover shelter work.
Supervisor Wiegand raised concerns about proceeding before receipt of grant certification; the Board agreed to add a follow‑up agenda item next month specifically to discuss the dog shelter location, future use of the former municipal site and grant‑scope adjustments. The Board approved the asbestos and demolition awards by motion and voice vote.
