Sheriff and CHP report thefts, crashes; Supervisor Parks gives county and transit updates

Senior Deputy John Chiaromonte of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office told the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council on Jan. 28 that the prior month’s incidents in Oak Park included thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles and urged residents to secure and lock cars.
A California Highway Patrol lieutenant reported seven vehicle collisions responded to by the CHP since November, and said three of those crashes involved speeding violations. The CHP representative emphasized enforcement and safety as part of the incident summary.
Supervisor Linda Parks provided county updates, thanking law enforcement and Public Works staff for participating in the meeting and announcing that she had been chosen to serve as chair of the Board of Supervisors for the coming year. Parks said the Board had selected a new district attorney from among several candidates and provided an update on COVID-19 in Ventura County, directing residents to vcrecovers.com for additional information.
Parks also announced that federal funding will cover local contributions for operating the Kanan Shuttle during the current fiscal year, removing the need for a contribution from County Service Area (CSA) funds for that service in the near term.
The safety reports and county updates were provided during the meeting’s public-safety and supervisor-report agenda items; council members posed no motions on these items during the session.
