Volo trustees approve liquor-license increase, join regional siren agreement and waive fire district fee

The Village of Volo Board of Trustees on Feb. 3 approved three formal actions affecting local businesses and emergency services.
Trustees adopted Ordinance No. O-26-01, amending Title 4, Chapter 2 (Liquor Control) to increase the village’s authorized liquor licenses from six to seven, effective May 1, 2026. Trustee Wagner moved to adopt the ordinance and Trustee Johnson seconded; Trustees Johnson, Heuser, Buttita, Komas and Wagner voted in favor. Mayor Stephen Henley presided over the meeting.
The board also authorized an intergovernmental agreement to share the purchase and annual maintenance costs for outdoor warning sirens with the Villages of Wauconda, Lakemoor, Island Lake, Port Barrington, Tower Lakes and Cuba Township. Trustee Wagner moved the agreement and Trustee Johnson seconded; the motion passed on a roll call vote with all trustees voting "aye." The agreement is intended to coordinate equipment and maintenance across neighboring jurisdictions.
Separately, the trustees approved a request from the Wauconda Fire Protection District to waive a $185 permit fee for replacement of the sign at Station No. 3 (1300 S. Gilmer Rd.). Trustee Heuser moved to waive the fee and Trustee Johnson seconded; Trustees Buttita, Komas, Johnson and Heuser voted "aye," and Trustee Wagner abstained. The motion carried.
Earlier business included approval of the Jan. 20, 2026 minutes (moved by Trustee Komas, seconded by Trustee Johnson) and authorization of accounts payable as listed in the Treasurer’s Report (moved by Trustee Heuser, seconded by Trustee Johnson), both carried by the board.
During public comment, Eleanor Sweet McDonnell introduced herself as a write-in candidate for Lake County Board District 17 and outlined her platform. Trustee Wagner reported briefly on the Economic Development Committee, and Mayor Stephen Henley said the village will have a booth at the Wauconda Chamber of Commerce Expo on Feb. 21. The meeting adjourned at 6:16 P.M.
