Authority reviews operator proposals and considers industrial pretreatment fee; no contract change approved

At the Dec. 1 meeting the Paradise Township Sewer Authority discussed options for operations of the Waste Water Treatment Plant but took no formal action.
Board member Brian Groff summarized his research into potential operators and shared a proposal from EEMA O&M Services Group. The current operator contract with PreDoc allows for pricing re-evaluation after the end of the current calendar year; Solicitor Susan P. Peipher reminded the Board that terminating the PreDoc contract requires 90 days' written notice. Groff said he will obtain a formal EEMA contract for the Board's consideration; the Board did not vote on an operator change and may call a special meeting to review any proposed agreement.
In old business, consulting engineer Abraham King suggested the Board consider instituting an industrial pretreatment fee to cover increased treatment costs caused by certain users. Rettew noted existing Authority regulations permit testing of users, and proposed a fee to help cover real incremental costs from industrial discharges. That idea was discussed but not adopted; no motion or timeline for next steps was recorded.
The Board also heard that Rettew has scheduled a Dec. 4 site visit with GES for preliminary troubleshooting of the WWTP upgrade/expansion.
