North Berwick schedules Planning Board public hearing on FY27 zoning changes; parking rule questioned

The North Berwick Select Board kept FY27 zoning changes on the agenda and confirmed that the Planning Board will hold a public hearing on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. to consider the amendments.
Dwayne Morin reviewed three changes discussed at the prior meeting and said he wanted the Planning Board hearing on the calendar so absent board members could be updated. He told the board a concern raised by Mr. Desmond involves the town’s parking ordinance, which currently uses a “1 car for every 2 people” ratio; Morin said that metric—originally written in the late 1970s or early 1980s—appears out of date and that North Berwick’s researched standard is comparable to other towns.
Board members did not take a vote on the zoning amendments at the Dec. 30 meeting; the items will be discussed at the Planning Board public hearing on Jan. 22. The Select Board will receive any Planning Board recommendations after that hearing as part of the FY27 zoning-change process.
