The Lexington Planning Commission on Jan. 7, 2026, voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council approve a Conditional Use Permit for Mike and Mary Wieneke to allow outdoor storage associated with a U-Haul business at 110 E. River Road. Chair Sadie Worthing opened the public hearing and Secretary Bill Brecks reviewed the property's history.
Brecks said the Wienekes purchased the property while an unapproved U-Haul business was already operating and that the site’s M-1 industrial zoning would require fewer additional conditions compared with a commercial C-3 zone. There were no public comments during the hearing.
Commissioner Curtis Roemmich moved, and Commissioner Novoa seconded, to send a recommendation of approval to the City Council. The roll call recorded nine ayes (Novoa, Margritz, Tappan, Moyer, Kaiser, Gonzalez, Roemmich, Smith, Worthing) and the motion carried. The recommendation will be considered by the City Council, which holds final authority on the permit.
