Trustees: budget on track overall; heating costs and space constraints noted

Librarian Kevin Unrath presented the current budget report at the Feb. 23 Dorothy Alling Memorial Library trustees meeting and told trustees the goal is to reach about 55% spending for the fiscal period; most budget categories are tracking as expected.
Kevin noted heating costs are somewhat over budget, a trend consistent with other town entities, but purchases of books and other materials are continuing despite space limitations. The library conducts regular weeding of older materials using criteria such as last date of circulation, date added to the collection and last checkout; weeded books are sold to a second‑hand bookseller and the library receives a share of proceeds that helps offset acquisitions.
Kevin also reported that benches for the entryway were bought from the Small Equipment line; trustees briefly discussed possible additional furnishings for that area. No formal budget amendments were proposed at the meeting.
Trustees heard the report as part of routine fiscal oversight and did not vote on new budget measures during the session.
