The Dorothy Alling Memorial Library’s capital campaign has raised more than $650,000 in pledges, trustees were told at the Feb. 23 meeting.
Librarian Kevin Unrath and Trustee Karla Karstens reported that campaign volunteers have installed a fundraising sign with a progress thermometer and have pursued public outreach including an open forum, a segment on the Morning Drive radio show, press releases, letters to the community and tabling at school events. Trustees were told the campaign will make a final push the Monday before Town Meeting and then await the vote on Tuesday.
The update stressed that campaign organizers will continue fundraising regardless of the ballot result. "A different message if there is a Strong or Close YES or a Strong or Close NO," Kevin said, and he added the campaign will issue a press release outlining next steps after the vote. Karla said the nearby town of St. George is considering whether to contribute to the campaign and plans to discuss the matter with Erik and the St. George Selectboard.
Campaign leaders framed the final week as a public outreach effort aimed at encouraging small donations as well as larger pledges: the thermometer and public events are meant to maintain momentum and visibility through Election Day. Trustees did not take any formal vote on campaign strategy at the meeting.
The trustees will reconvene March 16; campaign organizers said they will release further details after polls close on the Town Meeting vote.
