Rapho Township’s Planning Commission voted unanimously May 4 to approve a draft letter of consistency to support a proposed DCED Multimodal Grant application by the Rapho, Penn and Manheim Central School Districts for a wider Hamaker Road bridge over Chiques Creek and a 3,155‑foot sidewalk connector.
Township Manager Randall Wenger briefed commissioners that the project would replace the bridge with a wider structure and construct 3,155 linear feet of sidewalk to fill missing pedestrian connections among Manheim Borough, Rapho Township, Penn Township and Manheim Central School facilities. Lancaster County Planning Department had already issued a letter of consistency and support; Penn Township’s planning commission was considering its action that evening, Wenger said. Rapho plans to include its letter when the grant application is submitted prior to the July 2026 deadline.
Commissioner Carrol Ehrhart moved to approve the draft letter of consistency as written; Commissioner Chet Eckman seconded. The motion passed with all in favor. The letter is intended for inclusion in the DCED Multimodal Grant application; the grant review and any required permits or further approvals will determine project progression.
