Rothschild approves $56,687 CAT wheel-loader plow equipment; two trustees dissent

Public Works Administrator Timothy Vergara told the board the Village elected not to pursue a used MT snow blower from the 2024 budget because suitable used units were unavailable and the Village unexpectedly purchased a new excavator and wheel loader. Vergara said the targeted Universal Truck Equipment system, similar to equipment used by the Village of Weston, consists of a front reversible plow and wing accessory to improve turns and allow the loader to substitute for a plow truck when needed. Shipping to Galesville, Wisconsin is $3,000; total proposed cost for purchase, installation, and shipping is $56,687. Installation was estimated for March 2025 if ordered now, possibly as early as late January 2025.
A motion (Mortensen/Schremp) to approve the contract and funding from monies allocated as part of the 2024 Used MT Garage & Shop Capital Equipment Fund carried 5-2; Trustees Deb Ehster and Rex Zemke voted no. The minutes record the decision and the dissenting votes but do not record individual affirmative vote names for that motion beyond the two 'no' votes named.
The purchase is intended both to speed parking-lot and cul-de-sac plowing and to provide redundancy when plow trucks are out of service. The board's authorization allows staff to finalize the contract and schedule fabrication and installation.
