Montebello preservation commission notes resignation, outlines member roles and Comp Plan timeline

The Montebello Historic Preservation and Parks Commission met Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Village Hall. Chairman Matt Moetzinger called the meeting to order at 7:12 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Chairman Matt Moetzinger told the commission that “Ad Hoc Goldstein submitted his formal resignation from the HPPC to Village Hall on Tuesday March 4, 2025.” Commissioners discussed recruiting neighbors and friends to fill vacancies on village land use boards.
The commission approved the minutes from its February 5, 2025 meeting. Member Dorice Madronero moved to approve the minutes, Member Bill Ellsworth seconded, and the motion passed with all members in favor.
Moetzinger outlined a structure under which each HPPC member will be assigned one of six roles: Certificate of Appropriateness and the Historic and Scenic Overlay District; rock walls and trees; formal historic property designation; parks (maintenance, preservation, recreation and events); Viola Cemetery; and improvements to village properties and grounds. The commission agreed to finalize role assignments at the next meeting.
Commissioners also agreed that either the village’s 40th anniversary in May 2026 or the nation’s 250th birthday in July 2026 would be an appropriate occasion to bury a new time capsule; a final date will be selected at a subsequent meeting.
Moetzinger, who serves on the 2025 Comprehensive Plan committee, reported that a draft of the 2025 Village Comprehensive Plan is expected to be posted to the village website on March 12, 2025. He said the Comp Plan committee will hold a public hearing on March 26, 2025, after which, if there are no substantive public comments, the plan will be forwarded to the Board of Trustees for review and potential adoption.
Member Dorice Madronero moved to adjourn at 8:27 p.m.; Member Bill Ellsworth seconded, and the motion carried with all in favor.
