Bolton fire marshal reports plan reviews, inspections and community safety outreach

Fire Marshal Ray Walker summarized several ongoing reviews and safety activities at the Bolton Fire Commission meeting on Sept. 18.
Walker said the Fire Marshal’s Office focused on plan reviews for the conversion of fuels at town buildings, including locations on Notch Road, the Parks and Highway buildings, the Notch Road Municipal Center, Bolton Center School, the Bolton Fire House, Bentley Library, the Resident Troopers Office and Town Hall. He also reported reviewing plans for new construction of an office park at 1100 Boston Turnpike and continuing dialogue with applicants and town staff about a proposed farm brewery.
Current activities in September included inspections of child day care facilities at 212 Bolton Center Road and 104 Notch Road, the Lutz Farm event site at 20 Dimock Lane, and review of a proposed fire alarm system for the barn at the Town’s Heritage Farm. Deputy Fire Marshal Rupert handled inspection of an underground oil tank removal at 206 Bolton Center Road. Deputy Fire Marshal Volkert is coordinating a department poster contest with Bolton Center School and the Bolton Volunteer Fire Department.
Walker said the department arranged for Smokey the Bear to visit Lutz Family Farm Day with assistance from the DEEP Marlborough headquarters. He also noted his presentations and participation at the Michigan Fire Inspectors Society conference and that he will chair the International Fire Marshals Association Board of Directors fall meeting in Wyoming in October.
The commission recorded routine discussion of these items; no formal regulatory action or permit decision is noted in the minutes.
