Pottawattamie County supervisors approve consent agenda, proclamations, budget moves and road safety actions

At its May 12 meeting the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors approved a slate of routine and administrative items, including personnel hires, proclamations, appointments and budget actions.
Consent and personnel: On a consent motion led by Jeff Jorgensen and seconded by Tim Wichman the Board approved the May 5 minutes and multiple hires: six detention officers (Madison Stackhouse, Benjamin Brown, Ryan Sayers, Keagan Falknor, Jason Levermann and Joshua Littlefield), Pamela Woelber as a Disability Services Navigator, and Caleb Stevens as an Environmental Health Seasonal Technician. The Board also approved starting pay for a new Jail Secretary at Step 6 ($24.22 per hour) and starting pay for new and existing clerks at Step 3 ($20.76 per hour).
Appointments and proclamations: The Board appointed Mick Guttau and Andrew Dewey (Ex‑officio) to three‑year terms on the Veterans Affairs Commission and appointed Mick Madden to complete a term expiring June 30, 2028. The Board approved proclamations designating May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month (the courthouse will be lit green May 18–31) and May 10–16, 2026 as National Police Week (courthouse to be lit blue).
Budget and projects: The Board adopted Resolution No. 34‑2026 to appropriate funds per the FY 2025/26 budget amendment and authorized a $125,000 transfer from the General Supplemental Fund to cover insurance payments. The Board approved a letter of support for a grant to improve safety on roads through small towns and to redesign Old Lincoln Highway, and accepted Agreement No. 2025‑TS‑028 certifying completion of the Activate Warning Lights project on Highway 92 (Lewis Township Fire Department).
Fees and administrative items: The Board approved a 10 percent administrative fee on CO2 pipeline inspection invoicing to cover county administrative expenses, to be charged to Fund 1 (Board’s budget). Several out‑of‑state travel notifications for jail staff were filed and the Recorder's Fee Book for April 2026 was received and filed. No public comments were offered during the public comment period.
Study session and adjournment: In a 1:00 p.m. study session, Captain Sam Arkfeld of the Sheriff’s Office presented a detailed design review of the 911 radio project; the item was discussion only and no action was taken. The Board adjourned at 2:32 p.m.
