Glenburn reviews FY2026–27 budget draft; landfill fee schedule revised and cemetery committee planned

Town Manager McClung presented the council with the first draft of the fiscal year 2026–27 municipal budget at the March 26 meeting, saying many changes center on salary and benefits, computers and software, legal costs, and school and county budgets.
On a proposed landfill fee schedule, McClung said the draft used other nearby towns’ data and set a free landfill permit with per-item fees. Councilor Caruso asked that bulky-waste fees be more specific, calling for clarity on size thresholds and separate rates for commercial versus residential waste. The council directed staff to revise the schedule and return it at a future meeting.
McClung said he will form a cemetery committee and that immediate cemetery improvements can be absorbed by the Department of Public Works’ current capacity. He also announced several administrative items: a mandatory elections training on April 2; early closing at 6:30 p.m. on June 10 to hold Town Meeting; and an early close at 4:00 p.m. on June 30 for fiscal year-end processing. He reported the DPW position has been filled.
The council did not vote on the budget draft during the meeting; McClung presented it for council review and future action.
