Residents raise concerns about data centers; Board authorizes drafting of siting criteria

Data centers and related development impacts were raised during the public comment period at the April 23 Douglass Township meeting.
Residents expressed concern that data centers are not compatible with township priorities and that nearby development in New Hanover Township could create traffic issues. Chairman Josh Stouch said Douglass Township is ‘‘not in favor of data centers’’ and that the Board will seek to ‘‘insure we have an area with the least impact for this use’’ by establishing strict criteria and guidelines. The Board voted to authorize the solicitor and engineer to draft those criteria and present them for the June 2026 meeting.
The public comment also included a resident’s concern about traffic from the New Hanover development; no formal action on that development was taken, but the traffic concern was recorded and the Board’s drafting of a data‑center policy was authorized as a direct response to public input.
