Council OKs temporary VFW lease to house senior‑center programming during renovation

Uniontown’s City Council on May 11 approved Resolution 18‑78 to amend the city's lease with VFW Post 1949 so the senior center can temporarily relocate while the senior center undergoes structural upgrades.
Parks Director Alina Hibbs told council the amendment grants the city temporary exclusive occupancy of the VFW Hall from June 1 through Sept. 30, with the exception of two preexisting rentals. The city will compensate the VFW a total of $6,800, an amount absorbed into the ongoing project budget so no additional appropriation is required. Hibbs said the city will also perform small improvements to the hall to meet ADA accessibility requirements, paid from the project budget.
The council’s committee recommended approval; council moved and seconded the resolution and the motion passed by voice vote.
What’s next: Parks staff will finalize the lease amendment and schedule the senior‑center move and required accessibility work before June 1.
