The Red Hook Town Board on Feb. 10 adopted Resolution No. 9, issuing a Home Rule request to the New York State Legislature to amend Chapter 443 of the Laws of 2006 and continue the town’s authority to collect a 2% real estate transfer tax for the Community Preservation Fund (CPF).
The resolution references Section 64h of the Town Law, Article 31-A-1 of the Tax Law and Chapter 57 of the Red Hook Town Code, and cites bills introduced by state lawmakers as Senate Bill S.09041 and Assembly Bill A.10052. The Town Clerk was directed to forward a certified copy of the resolution and a Home Rule transmittal letter to Senator Michelle Hinchey and Assemblymember Sarahana Shrestha.
The motion to adopt the Home Rule request was offered by Supervisor Robert McKeon, seconded by Councilmember Jacob Testa, and carried on a roll-call vote with Supervisor McKeon and Councilmembers Kristina Dousharm, William Hamel, Kenneth Migliorelli and Jacob Testa voting Aye.
The resolution affirms the town’s intent to continue CPF collections for preservation projects and directs town officers to carry out any subsequent administrative steps required by law.
