At its Oct. 9 regular session the Governing Body of the Town of Bernalillo approved an inter-local dispenser license for a new Cheba Hut Toasted Subs location, voted to hire a facilities maintenance assistant and issued a proclamation recognizing local athlete Katie Bone.
Ida Fierro, Town Administrator, told the council "The Alcoholic Beverage Control Division has referred the Application for an Inter-Local Dispenser License NO. 2522 Applicant Big Toasted Mon, LLC DBA Cheba Hut Toasted Subs location 781 W HWY 550." No members of the public spoke for or against the license. Councilor Montoya moved to approve the license; Councilor Valverde seconded and the council voted unanimously.
Human Resources Director Maria Santillan recommended hiring Carlos Ruiz as the Facilities Maintenance Assistant, saying it was "the recommendation of the hiring committee to hire Carlos Ruiz as the Facilities Maintenance Assistant for the Town of Bernalillo." Councilor Prairie moved to hire Ruiz; Councilor Montoya seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Mayor Jack S. Torres read a proclamation naming Oct. 9, 2023, "KATIE BONE DAY" in Bernalillo in recognition of Bone's 2023 American Ninja Warrior Women's Championship and her advocacy related to Type 1 diabetes.
Why it matters: the liquor-license approval clears a local business to operate under the inter-local dispenser license; the hire fills an operational position in town facilities maintenance; and the proclamation recognizes a local resident's athletic achievement.
The council also approved the accounts-payable voucher list and closed the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
