IDOT motor-vehicle renewal program to go live in January 2027, county told

Melinda Schoettmer provided the Benton County Board of Supervisors with an update April 14 on an Iowa Department of Transportation program that the presenter said is scheduled to go live in January 2027.
Schoettmer said training for the new motor-vehicle renewal system will start in June 2026 and that the state will cover the cost of new DOT computers. She told the board that approximately 38% of the renewals currently processed in Benton County are for out-of-county residents. Schoettmer estimated the new motor-vehicle system would be fully in place around August–September 2028.
No formal action was taken on the IDOT presentation during the meeting. County staff will need to participate in training and plan for equipment upgrades as directed by state implementation timelines. The board received the update and continued with other agenda items.
