Jasper County supervisors approve hiring, jail security upgrade, remodel and three fund transfers

The Jasper County Board of Supervisors on May 26, 2026 unanimously adopted several administrative and capital measures during its regular meeting. Chairman Thad Nearmyer and Supervisors Cupples and Talsma voted yea on all motions recorded.
Supervisor Talsma moved and Supervisor Cupples seconded a hiring resolution (Resolution 26-31) certifying the appointment of Collin Buchli as Seasonal Park Maintenance Technician at $15.75 per hour, effective June 2, 2026; the motion passed unanimously. The board also approved a quote from SCI Communications for $11,427.95 to add three jail doors to the existing key-fob access system (motion by Talsma, seconded by Cupples; unanimous).
Maintenance Director Adam Sparks presented three bids to remodel the Jasper County Law Center booking area and expand the basement evidence room. The board accepted the low bids from Giardino Construction—$64,960 for the booking area and $57,100 for the evidence-room addition—and approved a combined contract of $122,060 (motion by Talsma, seconded by Cupples; unanimous).
The board adopted three transfer resolutions: Resolution 26-32 (transfer order #1571) moved $414,848.00 from the Amended 28E Sub fund TPI Fund to the 2015 (2007) TPI Refunded Fund; Resolution 26-33 (transfer order #1572) moved $57,134.21 from the Legacy Plaza Economic Development Fund to the 2005–(2023) Legacy Plaza Debt Service Fund; and Resolution 26-34 (transfer order #1573) moved $5,700.55 from the General Basic Fund to the 2040 Admin Building Debt Service Fund. Each transfer was moved by Talsma, seconded by Cupples, and approved unanimously.
The board also approved the May 19, 2026 minutes (motion by Talsma, seconded by Cupples) and noted that no board appointments were made at this meeting. A complete copy of each adopted resolution is on file in the Office of the Jasper County Auditor.
