The council received multiple communications from the mayor May 19 and acted on appointments under suspension of the rules.
The mayor submitted appointment letters including Kat McLellan to the Fitchburg Cultural Council (term to June 2, 2029) and personnel appointments for the police department. Council moved to suspend the rules and approve the appointments of Patrick P. Flathers as a full‑time police officer and Carly Poirier as a full‑time student police officer by unanimous consent (10‑0). Other reappointments listed in the mayor’s communication — including members of the Council on Aging, Disability Commission, Trustees of the Public Library and Zoning Board of Appeals — were referred to the Appointments Committee for review.
The meeting also recorded a promotion letter for Firefighter Jonathan May to the rank of Lieutenant; the promotion was read and filed in the City Clerk’s Office. The council did not debate the personnel items at length during the May 19 session.
