Craven County adopts resolution opposing changes to tax authority, approves two property conveyances

The Board adopted a resolution opposing proposed constitutional or statutory modifications that would restrict county property-tax authority. County Manager Jack Veit presented the resolution on May 18, saying counties must retain local flexibility to fund essential services; following minor amendment to reference Craven County's stewardship, Commissioner Sherry Hunt moved and Commissioner E. T. Mitchell seconded the measure, which carried unanimously.
The Board also approved conveyances of two tax-foreclosed parcels in the City of New Bern after the upset-bid period expired. County Attorney Arey Grady reviewed both transactions and recommended approval. The Board accepted the highest bids and authorized quitclaim conveyances: Parcel 8-013-055 to Gerard Dixon and Ebonie Taylor-Dixon for $4,250, and Parcel 8-006-125 to Stingray Realty Investments, LLC for $3,000. Motions to adopt the conveyance resolutions passed 7-0.
