Board approves first readings for General Assistance and zoning map updates, proclaims Aphasia Awareness Month

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors on May 26 advanced several noncontroversial items: first readings of two ordinances and a proclamation.
Public Health Director Suzanne Hagerty presented proposed revisions to Chapter 4 of the General Assistance Program to reflect that the program is now administered by the Health Department and to add clarifying definitions. After a public hearing the board closed the hearing and approved the first reading of Ordinance 2026-0011.
Samuel Larson presented updates to the Official Dallas County Iowa Zoning Map, which incorporate changes since 2021. The board approved the first reading of Ordinance 2026-0010 and directed that the official map be posted outside the Planning & Zoning office and made available online for public review.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved a proclamation recognizing National Aphasia Awareness Month. Each motion to advance the ordinances and adopt the proclamation passed on unanimous votes.
