High-school instructor Jared Bosler told the board the business program has been restructured to group career clusters and to expand practical, credit-bearing opportunities for students.
Bosler listed course offerings that span grades 9–12, including digital technology, multimedia production, web design, personal finance, accounting I/II, accounting independent study tied to MAC dual-credit, marketing productions and a school-based enterprise that processes orders and teaches inventory and customer service. "They get a lot of real world skills out of it," Bosler said, describing projects that include Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, podcasts, websites and mock-business simulations.
Bosler said plans are in place to offer dual-credit arrangements with Mineral Area College (MAC) for select courses next year, and described work-based learning and employer partnerships that support student placements. He noted variable enrollment pressures (students choosing employment or college-level courses) and set recruitment goals to grow participation.
The presentation also noted extracurricular support through FBLA and fundraisers and highlighted student projects used for community fundraisers and support efforts for students in need.
