Superintendent and principal highlight preschool screenings, kindergarten registration and student recognitions

The STE. GENEVIEVE CO. R-II superintendent and building principals updated the board on enrollment, early-childhood services and school events.
The superintendent told the board that three board seats were uncontested this cycle (Mr. Bosler, Mr. Ker and Mr. Kong) and reiterated that March is School Board Recognition Month. He also noted kindergarten registration events at St. Genevieve Elementary and Bloomsdale Elementary and encouraged families to call the elementary offices to enroll children who missed registration.
The principal reported the early-childhood team has completed about 1,000 visits and roughly 200 developmental screenings so far this year and expects about 55 new pre-K students in April across three- and four-year-old classrooms. The report credited parent-educator home visiting and on-campus screening slots for helping connect families to services such as Missouri First Steps and early childhood intervention when delays are identified.
Staff and student recognitions included Mark Twain reading program honorees, 'power leaders' and faculty awards. The district also highlighted extracurricular achievements — band, speech and debate qualifiers, and success at the VEX robotics competition — and reminded the board of upcoming test dates: grade-level assessments beginning April 7 for middle school and MAP/EOC testing late April for high school.
The presentation closed with reminders of an upcoming retirement and recognition banquet on May 8 and other calendar items.
