The ODESSA R‑VII Board approved a one‑time $1,000 per course development stipend for staff who create virtual summer‑school classes, in addition to the district’s existing $3,600 summer‑school teaching stipend.
Administrators explained the payment is intended to reward the extra time required to design and pace virtual courses in the district’s first year running primarily virtual high‑school summer offerings. Once a course is developed and housed by district staff (Amanda referenced as the repository lead), the district will own the curriculum and future instructors can use the pacing guide without re‑creating it.
The board discussed the stipend’s intent to reduce duplicated development effort across years and to make virtual course offerings sustainable. A motion to approve the recommendation was moved, seconded and carried by the board.
Board members and administrators said the stipend is a one‑time payment for initial course creation; subsequent instructors would receive only the standard summer stipend for teaching the course unless additional development work is required.
