Upper St. Clair School Board honors 24 retirees, praises decades of service

The Upper St. Clair School Board honored 24 retirees on Jan. 1, 2026, recognizing long service across the district’s schools and support departments.

Superintendent Dr. Razo opened the recognition by reading the roster of retirees and noting years of service and roles, which included custodians, bus drivers, paraprofessionals, secretaries and classroom teachers. Examples from the list: Nancy Skola (27 years, custodian), Craig M. (21 years, Boyce music teacher), Denise Erso Burch (30½ years, Boyce Middle School Spanish), Nancy Dunn (32 years, instructional aide and secretary), Mark Miller (32 years, teacher and longtime Eisenhower principal) and Sam David (29 years, custodian). The superintendent said the district will host a retiree breakfast next week to offer further recognition.

Colleagues and board members paid tribute to the retirees’ impact on students. Several board members and former colleagues spoke about the retirees’ contributions to school culture and student support, sharing brief anecdotes and thanking them for decades of service. Mark Miller and other retirees accepted congratulations and reflected on their years in the district.

The board presented a small gift and extended well wishes; board members encouraged retirees to remain involved as substitutes or volunteers if they wish. The recognition concluded with the superintendent thanking staff and community members for supporting the retirees during their careers.

The board moved on to its curriculum agenda after the recognition; no formal action was required on the retiree recognitions beyond the acknowledgments.

Next steps: The district will hold a retiree breakfast and continue to coordinate transition and staffing for positions vacated by retirements.
