Scanel told the board she raised $5,618.70 and that $5,168 of that amount would purchase the large‑animal rescue lift, with the remaining $450.70 designated for the stray animal fund. The chair and members praised the project as “very cool” and moved to accept the gift and the cash donation. The motions were seconded and the board recorded the motions as passed unanimously.
Fire and animal‑control staff described how the lift and accompanying glide and sling would be used to safely raise horses or other large animals that become cast or are seriously injured. Without local equipment, staff said, towns commonly wait for specialized teams that can be hours away. A town official said the lift could be used with local manpower or attached to heavy machinery to safely raise an animal.
The board treated the two donations as separate motions: one to accept the large‑animal rescue lift and one to accept the $450.70 for the stray animal fund. Both motions were moved, seconded and approved. The board thanked Scanel for the effort; the chair noted the donation would be available for use by the animal control office and the fire department.
The board then moved on to other agenda items.
