Mashpee seeks up to $500,000 for Route 28 traffic and design study; Select Board offers letter of support

Town planner Ryan Tobin asked the board to endorse a Community One‑Stop grant application seeking $500,000 to study traffic on the Route 28 corridor from the Shellback Way/Charles Street intersection up to the Rotary. Tobin said the town already has planning support from the planning board and expects additional letters of support from MassDOT District 5 and Mashpee Commons.
Tobin said the grant would fund a traffic study and a follow‑on design product but would not fund construction. He said the town would use the work to pursue future construction funding and that the study could take one to two years to complete if funded. "We're applying for $500,000," he said. "That money would go both towards a traffic study as well as a design product, not construction."
Select Board members asked whether prior private developer traffic studies exist; Tobin said this would be the first town‑sponsored, corridor‑wide study and that it would look across multiple approved and pending projects. The board voted unanimously to provide a letter of support to be included in the grant application.
