Two residents used the open public forum at the May 5 Owensboro commission meeting to press the city on neighborhood safety and services.
Charles Bonioani (2403 Biddle Road) described persistent speeding, noise from modified mufflers and recurring littering near his home. He said he monitors a stop sign with a Ring camera and finds most drivers do not stop; he asked the city to install a durable park-style trash receptacle near a high foot-traffic corridor and to increase enforcement of noise and traffic rules. "I see people routinely toss garbage into my yard...the city should install...a park trash can," Bonioani said, asking the commission for assistance with signage, trash receptacles and law enforcement attention.
Glender Wright (711 Jed Place) commended free public yoga and Tai Chi programming run by Parks & Rec, then raised concerns from a recent budget meeting. Wright urged the city to prioritize covered bus shelters for vulnerable riders, saying the funds used for a proposed outdoor pickleball court could instead cover many shelters. He also said smaller local nonprofits (citing Breaking the Cycle and Borrowed Hearts) should be considered for city funding alongside larger organizations and proposed a one-year task force focused on homelessness that he offered to help lead.
Both speakers asked for concrete follow-up from the city; meeting minutes and staff will record their requests for future consideration by the commission.
