Resident urges speed bumps and patrols near Skyview Commons; police report fireworks damage at Veterans Park

Michelle Lemons, a Skyview Commons resident, told the council she has repeatedly asked police for more patrols after a new fitness center opened and vehicles began speeding near a curve on Grassland Drive.
"I requested last year for a speed bump. I was told that's not gonna happen because that's a good $4,200," Lemons said, and she urged the city to consider at minimum lower speed limit signs (she suggested 15 mph on the curve), more bollards, and increased patrols because residents — including older tenants — are worried about safety.
Mayor (speaker 1) said staff would follow up and indicated the city would likely install additional signage. Council members encouraged Lemons to stay in contact with staff and noted police would be asked to increase enforcement where feasible.
Separately, a police officer (speaker 10) reported that officers responded to Veterans Park for a large fireworks discharge near the memorial seal; the officer said public works was called to clean burn marks and that an adult accompanying a group of children was cited for criminal mischief pending a damage assessment. The officer reported photographic and video evidence had been provided to dispatch and that witnesses were interviewed.
The council discussed whether park signage should more clearly prohibit fireworks and whether additional enforcement or park rangers are needed to deter repeated damage. No formal new policy was enacted; staff were directed to follow up with enforcement and facilities crews.
