Jeffersontown's mayor announced the city's property tax rate will remain $10.82 per $100 of assessed value as the council completed a first reading of the tax ordinance and accepted the annual Jefferson County assessment for valuation.
The mayor said the tax rate "was the same as what was in last year's budget," and council members were told the city has adopted the county's annual property evaluation. Council member speaker 5 said the tax ordinance is a first reading and requires no further action at this time.
Council members also heard a first reading of the city's budget for fiscal year 2026-27. Presenter speaker 5 described it as a balanced budget with $39,138,175 in revenue and a like amount in disbursements; earlier in the meeting the mayor said the 2627 budget was balanced at $38,592,297 (figures were discussed during the meeting and presenters indicated budget totals and assessments during readings).
Council moved the ordinance readings by voice vote; members said a second reading will be scheduled as required by ordinance procedure. Finance committee members said they will continue reviewing line items before final adoption and tentatively scheduled additional meetings to complete that work.
Next steps: the tax‑rate ordinance and the budget will return for a second reading before the council adopts a final budget.
