Recurring water leaks disrupt Cornelius library shelving and circulation, director says

At its April 2 meeting in Cornelius, the Cornelius Library Advisory Board heard that recurring water leaks have continued to disrupt library operations. Director Maria Aguilar told the board an additional leak was discovered in March, one month after a leak above the service desk, and that the March incident occurred during normal operating hours and impacted the south entrance.
Aguilar said staff are coordinating repairs with an apartment manager. Previous leaks remain pending repair, and shelving removed for the repairs has not been reinstalled. That work has prevented the adult non-fiction collection from circulating since November, reducing access to that portion of the collection for patrons.
Board members discussed the operational impact but did not take a formal vote on additional funding or contracting at the meeting. The board will review repair progress at its next regular meeting on May 7, 2026.
