Kewanee council approves routine consent items and bills; mayor highlights local school achievements

The Kewanee City Council approved routine business and shared community announcements at its March 11 meeting.
The consent agenda — including minutes, closed-session minutes, staff reports and an FCC street-closure request — was approved on a 5-0 vote after a motion by Councilmember Faber and second by Councilmember Komnick. Payroll for the period ending Feb. 24 in the amount of $221,080.08 was included. Separately, bills for the meeting totaling $727,678.73 were approved 5-0 after Councilmember Colomer questioned a charge from StarComm; Fire Chief Welgat explained it covers monthly radio fees for each radio.
Mayor Moore congratulated Ace Lafollette of Central Junior High on winning the state championship in the 155-pound weight class and reported on other school sports. He also asked Mr. Newton to schedule a council tour of the new cemetery building. Announcements noted the cemetery spring clean-up March 20–31 (decorations will be removed), landscape pick-up beginning March 18 (bags require a sticker), burning restrictions in effect until April 1 and a City Hall front-office closure on March 13 for staff development.
The meeting opened with a closed session that considered litigation and closed-meeting minutes and reconvened to regular session at 7:01 p.m. The council adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
