The West Deer Township Board of Supervisors on July 16 adopted Ordinance No. 461, which revises the township zoning code’s definition of “recreation facility” and removes a variance requirement for short, low-impact events.
Township Solicitor Gavin Robb explained the ordinance and said it was intended to avoid requiring variances for certain brief events that are not particularly impactful to neighboring properties. Supervisor Josh Wiegand questioned whether the Board should incorporate recommendations from the Planning Commission, specifically a suggestion to change the permitted event length from two days to five days. Wiegand asked whether the ordinance should be amended and readvertised to reflect the Commission’s recommendation.
Supervisor James Smullin moved to adopt Ordinance No. 461 and Supervisor John Hollibaugh seconded the motion. The Board voted 3–1 in favor: Hollibaugh, Chairperson Beverly Jordan and Smullin voted yes; Wiegand voted no. The motion carried and the ordinance was adopted.
