Amityville board advances $24.23 million tentative 2026-27 budget, schedules re-levy hearing

Mayor Michael O27Neill presented the Village of Amityville27s tentative budget for fiscal year June 1, 2026, through May 31, 2027, with total recommended appropriations of $24,227,002 and a tax rate of $41.14 per $100 of assessed value. The presentation, which the mayor read to the board, cited an average tax change of $1.26 per $100.
The budget document called out several major items: $2.4 million for capital projects, $400,000 for Fire Department LOSAP, and $300,000 for tax certioraris. Revenue sources listed included tax collections of $15,838,206, estimated other revenue of $8,388,795, and an appropriated fund balance of $1,253,532, bringing total budgeted revenue to $24,227,002. On the expense side, the budget listed $10,693,802 for police, $4,522,788 for public works, $1,858,026 for the fire department and $2,405,000 for capital projects, among other line items.
The board moved to open the 20262727 budget hearing; Trustee Adam Ansanelli made the motion and Trustee Robert Russo seconded. The board voted unanimously to open the hearing, heard one public commenter (Diane Melish of 22 S. Ketcham Ave.; the transcript records her attendance but does not include her remarks), then voted unanimously to approve and to close the budget hearing.
Beyond the budget, the board handled a slate of routine actions. Trustees approved promotion of Denys Frankevych to EMT2DParamedic, added two new Amityville Fire Department members (Kristin Wood and Kira Hurley), approved multiple landscaping licenses and vendor payments, authorized police training, and adopted two small budget transfers for the fire department. The board also scheduled a public hearing for May 11 to consider re-levying unpaid property clean-up charges for two parcels (SCTM 101-1-1-14, 38 West Smith St., $1,385.14; SCTM 101-3-1-33, 101 Sterling Pl., $1,697.67).
Votes at a glance: the board recorded unanimous (5-0) approval on the budget hearing motions and most routine motions. The April 13 meeting minutes were approved 4-0-1 with Mayor O27Neill recorded as abstaining; one landscaping approval (Russo27s Landscaping) carried 4-0-1 with Trustee Robert Russo abstaining. Several items were explicitly tabled, including a new landscaper license for L & J Landscaping.
