Brownwood authorizes two-year hauling contract with Keep Texas Recycling at 10% fee

The City of Brownwood authorized the City Manager Feb. 10 to sign a two-year contract with Keep Texas Recycling (KTR) to coordinate hauling services for recycled materials. Public Works Director Henry Wied told council that KTR can arrange both full- and partial-load pickups through its network, a service the city could not always secure directly due to insufficient volume for full truckloads.
Under the contract, KTR’s fee is 10% of sales revenue from recycled materials, which Wied said is less than the city’s internal hauling costs. Wied also noted that partnering with KTR restores access to grant opportunities that became unavailable after Keep Brownwood Beautiful dissolved.
Councilmember Ed McMillian moved and Councilmember Draco A. Miller seconded authorization of the contract; the motion carried unanimously.
