Brownwood Council declares equipment surplus, to apply proceeds toward landfill debt and capital fund

The Brownwood City Council voted Feb. 10 to declare multiple vehicles, parts, furniture and equipment as surplus and authorized staff to sell, scrap, or donate those items. Public Works Director Henry Wied told the council some equipment has exceeded its useful life or is beyond repair and recommended offering office equipment first to nonprofit organizations, with remaining items scrapped or sold.
Wied said proceeds from the sale of a landfill wheel loader and an articulated dump truck will be applied to pay down the associated note; other proceeds will be deposited into the Capital Improvement Fund. He also said items will be listed on GovDeals with reserve pricing informed by John Deere’s guaranteed buyback amounts to seek maximum value.
Councilmember Melody Nowowiejski moved and Councilmember Ed McMillian seconded the resolution to declare the items surplus and authorize disposition; the motion carried unanimously.
The council adopted RESOLUTION NO. R-26-04 to memorialize the action and authorize staff to proceed with disposition according to the resolution.
