Silvis council approves firewall, body‑camera renewal and street repairs; tables streetlight decision

At the Regular Meeting the council approved firewall services for the Police Department from Nexum, Inc., a police body‑camera renewal with Axon Enterprise and a Bob’s Blacktop contract to resurface two street sections. Council members also adopted a proposal to charge permit fees in the city’s Enterprise Zone. Each of those items passed on recorded voice votes with seven ayes and one member absent (Alderman Dave Rice).
The firewall item was introduced in the Committee of the Whole and moved to the council agenda by Alderman Craig Pirmann. The motion references Nexum, Inc.; the packet and motion text list $5,990.20 for the service, though the meeting minutes contain a typographical variant ($5,9990.20) that appears to be an error.
Alderman Bob Cervantes moved approval of two blacktop sections — one in front of Hawkeye and one in front of Weber’s — from Bob’s Blacktop not to exceed $27,500. That contract was approved by the council with the same 7–0 recorded vote.
The council also approved an Axon Enterprise renewal for police body‑worn cameras listed at $9,801.97. Alderman Craig Pirmann made the motion and Alderman Doug Greer seconded; the item passed with a 7–0 recorded vote.
On economic development, Alderman Rick Lohse moved to establish charging permit fees within the Enterprise Zone; Alderwoman Chrissy Winters seconded in the council meeting and the motion passed 7–0.
Council members tabled a streetlight installation proposal for 28th and 29th Avenues (MidAmerican, not to exceed $12,000) to the next Committee of the Whole meeting on June 18 for further review.
The consent agenda, established earlier in the meeting, passed as read before these individual approvals were taken.
What’s next: Items tabled to the June 18 Committee of the Whole include the streetlight installation. Several items (including an ordinance to amend the Kelly’s Pizza TIF) were advanced from the committee to the council agenda for later consideration; the council did not take final action on the TIF amendment on June 4.
