Shelburne’s Housing Committee met Jan. 5, 2025, approved its meeting agenda and the Dec. 1 minutes, and spent most of the hour brainstorming a public panel on housing and deciding how to handle the Town Plan Update.
Chair Nikki Stevens opened the meeting; Maria McClellan moved to approve the agenda with Peg Rosenau seconding, and the motion passed. Chair Nikki Stevens then moved to approve the Dec. 1 meeting notes, again seconded by Peg Rosenau, and the committee approved the minutes.
The substantive discussion focused on planning a public panel to highlight housing topics that have recently appeared in local coverage. Committee members discussed inviting HomeShare participants, including a Jericho homeowner who reported a successful HomeShare arrangement with a nurse and who also described encountering regulatory obstacles when attempting to build an accessory dwelling unit. Members also discussed inviting Miro Weinberger of Let’s Build Homes to speak about his organization’s 2026 priorities and Fairlee builder Jonah Richard to present on small‑town building approaches. Michael Hibben of Pierson Library was proposed as a moderator but was noted to be already booked.
The committee assigned specific follow-up tasks: Chair Nikki Stevens will contact HomeShare and Jonah Richard, and Maria McClellan will speak with Miro Weinberger (who is presenting elsewhere this week). Members recorded there were no new housing starts to report.
On the Town Plan Update, the two people working on the plan offered two options for an upcoming meeting: a presentation or a working session. The committee chose Option 2, a working session that will allow more back-and-forth, and rescheduled the next meeting for Monday, Feb. 9, 2026; the Feb. 9 meeting will be in Meeting Room 1. The meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
Attendance was recorded as Chair Nikki Stevens and committee members Joyce George, Maria McClellan, Peg Rosenau and Andrea Metzke present; Julie Gaboriault was absent. Joseph Cavanaugh was listed as staff (Shelburne assistant town planner).
