Cudahy council approves ordinances, resolutions and multiple liquor-license renewals; takes no action on CDBG cooperation

The Cudahy Common Council met June 27, 2017, at the Cudahy Municipal Building and approved a series of ordinances, resolutions and liquor-license renewals while taking no action on a proposed cooperation agreement with Milwaukee County for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

Mayor John Hohenfeldt called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. and the council recorded Alderpersons Moralez, Hollenbeck, Litkowiec and St. Marie-Boelkow present (Alderperson Johnson was absent and excused). The consent agenda — including minutes from prior committee and commission meetings and routine license-renewal approvals — was approved by motion of Alderperson Hollenbeck and second by Alderperson St. Marie-Boelkow and carried unanimously on roll call.

Why it matters: The meeting covered routine municipal business that affects local land use, business licensing and the city fee schedule. Several certified survey maps passed, clearing title and parcel adjustments for specific properties; license renewals and temporary extensions allow scheduled holiday events to proceed pending standard inspections and background checks.

Council action and votes - The council took no action on the Cooperation Agreement with Milwaukee County for the CDBG program; the item remained on the record but was not advanced. - The body approved inclusion of the Aerotropolis Development Plan in the city’s next comprehensive-plan update (motion by Alderperson Moralez, second by Alderperson St. Marie-Boelkow). - Two ordinances were adopted: Ordinance No. 2448 (amending municipal code on membership of the Rules, Laws & Licensing Committee) and Ordinance No. 2449 (deleting Chapter 18, Article IV concerning milk and milk products). Both passed by unanimous vote. - Resolutions No. 7122–7127 approving certified survey maps for several properties (including 3733 E. Mallory Ave., 3806 and 3814 E. Munkwitz Ave., 3944 E. Layton Ave., 5133 S. Whitnall Ave./5200 S. Barland Ave., and 5567 S. Lake Dr.) were approved unanimously. - The council approved Resolution No. 7128 recognizing Janet St. Louis’ service on the Rules, Laws & Licensing Committee, Resolution No. 7129 recognizing nine years of service by K-9 Officer Ezzo, and Resolution No. 7130 adopting the city fee schedule.

Licenses and event extensions Council renewed multiple liquor licenses (Class B combination, Class B malt and Class A combination) pending inspections and background checks. The council also approved three temporary extensions of premises for July 4, 2017: - Lakeside Pub & Grill, 4671 S. Lake Drive — requested by Duane Tate, extension from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.; - Orson’s Saloon, 3558 E. Barnard Ave. — requested by Milo Basina, extension from 12:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.; - Packard All Flava Bar & Grill, 5132 S. Packard Ave. — requested by Alvin Beason, extension from 12:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. All three temporary extensions were approved by motion of Alderperson St. Marie-Boelkow, second by Alderperson Moralez; approvals were subject to the usual pending inspections and background checks.

Other business and public comment The council received the 2016 Cudahy Fire Department annual report and heard an update from the Plan Commission. During public comment, resident Jerry Wenglewski of 3717 E. Carpenter raised concerns about weeds near Packard Plaza, weeds on Packard and Pulaski Avenues, and alley garbage at 3711 E. Barnard Ave. Alderperson Hollenbeck briefly left the meeting at 7:10 P.M. and returned at 7:14 P.M. The meeting adjourned at 7:34 P.M.
