Beardstown council rejects tentative union agreement with UFCW Local 431 after executive session

A motion by Alderperson Ron Culves, seconded by Alderperson Lisa Buhlig, to approve the tentative agreement failed by roll call: Yea — Dawn Seward; No — Lisa Buhlig, Ron Culves, Eric Harbin, Keith Schramm; Abstain — Mary Davis. Two alderpersons (Chris Baer and Shawn Taylor) were absent. The transcript records the motion and the subsequent roll call vote; the motion did not carry.
The executive session motion to convene to discuss collective bargaining was passed earlier in the meeting by a 6‑0 roll call. The council returned to open session at 7:22 p.m. and immediately took the roll call vote on the tentative agreement.
Mayor Tim Harris also reported during the meeting that street work related to the sewer improvement project is nearing completion and that repairs to the Bley Building on Main Street are showing progress. Alderperson Dawn Seward urged enforcement of property maintenance, suggesting repeat offenders be ticketed rather than issued a second warning.
