Cudahy council approves OPEB transfer, sells Water Utility property and awards CDBG bus-stop contract

The Common Council of the City of Cudahy met on June 6, 2017, at the Cudahy Municipal Building. Mayor John Hohenfeldt called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., the open-meeting statement was read, and a roll call showed Alderpersons Moralez, Johnson, Hollenbeck and Litkowiec present; Alderperson St. Marie-Boelkow was absent and excused.
The council unanimously approved its consent agenda after a motion by Alderperson Litkowiec and a second by Alderperson Johnson. The consent items included minutes from several boards and commissions, claims ending April 30 totaling $633,618.65 and claims ending May 31 totaling $658,446.41, and renewals of used auto dealer and salvage dealer licenses pending inspections and background checks.
In new-business votes, the council unanimously approved a request to waive the insurance requirement for a block party organized by Alana Hether at 3341 E. Mallory Avenue (motion by Alderperson Hollenbeck; second by Alderperson Johnson).
The council also approved the Milwaukee County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) recommendation of award for the Pennsylvania Bus Stop Improvements (Project 2017-04) to D.C. Burbach, Inc. The contract award was for $34,524.50, with a not-to-exceed amount of $62,749.00 (motion by Alderperson Litkowiec; second by Alderperson Hollenbeck). The roll call vote on the award carried unanimously.
Council members received a presentation and discussion of the Department of Public Works space-needs and planning study regarding a potential new public works facility; no action was taken on that item.
The council approved two resolutions by unanimous roll call. Resolution No. 7113 transfers funds from the General Fund to the city's OPEB reserve fund (motion by Alderperson Moralez; second by Alderperson Johnson). Resolution No. 7121 authorized the sale of the Water Utility property at 5133 S. Whitnall Avenue and the purchase of that property by the City’s Storm Water Utility (motion by Alderperson Johnson; second by Alderperson Hollenbeck).
During the public comment period, Jerry Wenglewski of 3717 E. Carpenter raised a complaint about the city cutting grass on private property. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m. following a motion by Alderperson Johnson and a second by Alderperson Moralez. The minutes were later passed and approved on June 27, 2017, and signed by Mayor John Hohenfeldt and Clerk/Treasurer Dennis Broderick.
