Lancaster County to study vacating portion of road near Prairie Home

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners voted 4-0 June 2 to direct the county engineer to conduct a study and write a report on vacating a portion of public road right-of-way near the unincorporated village of Prairie Home.
Lancaster County Engineering representative John Bur told the board the roadway in question — referred to in the meeting as a two-lane, mostly grassy path and a "minimum maintenance street" with an adjacent alley that is also little used — is being considered for vacation as part of planned ditch work and regrading in the community. Bur said the study would precede a public hearing on whether to vacate the right-of-way.
The board approved a resolution to instruct the county engineer to complete the study and prepare a report; commissioners said a subsequent hearing will follow to receive public input before any final action.
