Board approves broker contract to sell city’s 2017 rescue truck

The Board of Public Works and Safety voted June 1 to authorize a contract with an outside broker to market and sell the city’s 2017 rescue truck.
The fire chief told the board that staff had tried for months to sell the vehicle on their own and fielded several expressions of interest. “We have tried probably the last three months or so,” the chief said, adding that the broker “has the reach of all the United States” and negotiated a reduced commission from 10% to 5%. The chief said the department planned to ask $500,000 for the vehicle.
The board considered resolution 6-05, which authorizes the contract with the broker and related sale process. After brief discussion the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The chief said the city would seek a reserve or similar protection in the sale process, and staff discussed certifying a tax lien if a related invoice remained delinquent in other property cases earlier in the meeting. The board did not specify a final sale date; the authorization allows staff to proceed with contracting and marketing under the terms approved.
The board moved on to other agenda items after the vote.
