County unveils new tax parcel viewer and GIS hub to replace MapExpress

Levi (GIS staff) demonstrated Otsego County’s new tax parcel viewer and GIS hub, which the county intends to use to replace the older MapExpress application. The tool allows searches by address, owner or parcel identifier, displays flood, wetland and jurisdictional layers, and makes data downloadable for public use.
Levi showed search, buffering and printable-map functions, and said the hub will host tutorials and training for municipal staff. He explained a next-step to integrate property cards (STG/real-property URLs) so users can view a property’s purchase history and recorded improvements directly from the parcel viewer.
Levi said the hub already supplies data to the state GIS clearinghouse and that all county layers will be available without a paywall. He also said the tool can ingest short-term rental registries (if the county provides a name–address table) and generate mapped lists to help the county monitor registrations and fee collection.
Committee members asked whether the parcel viewer could support planning-board and assessor workflows; Levi said it can and invited municipalities to request training or in-person sessions in the spring. Staff indicated the parcel viewer will be available from the county planning department page and linked on the real property site.
Next steps: integrate property-card URLs with the parcel viewer, promote tutorials to the public and schedule municipal trainings in the spring.
