Ogemaw County commits to applying for $250,000 MSHDA neighborhood CDBG

The Ogemaw County Board of Commissioners voted to acknowledge a tentative Michigan State Housing Development Authority designation and to pursue a $250,000 Michigan Neighborhood Community Development Block Grant, a county official said.

Commissioner Crick moved to approve the resolution acknowledging the MSHDA designation and committing the county to complete the full application; Commissioner Wilty supported the motion, which the board approved. Tim, the county administrator/controller, described the vote as a formality required by the state but said the county will complete the full application by the announced deadline of Sept. 17, 2025. He called the required formal acknowledgment “bureaucracy at its best” but confirmed the county will proceed with the application process.

The grant is intended to fund energy-efficiency, health-and-safety, and other improvements for eligible households with incomes at or below 80 percent of the applicable federal threshold. The MSHDA designation is contingent on the county completing the full application and meeting compliance requirements; the award remains tentative until all state conditions are satisfied.

The resolution was sponsored by Housing Consult Consulting Services LLC on behalf of the county housing program. Commissioners asked staff to coordinate application materials and noted that grant administration and reporting would follow standard CDBG requirements if the award is finalized.

Other brief items approved on the consent agenda included a resolution supporting Northern Michigan Amtrak service and acceptance of a quote for a commercial entry door project at the county transit building. The board approved the consent agenda by roll call vote.

Next steps: county staff will assemble the full application and supporting materials with the goal of filing by Sept. 17, 2025, and will report back to the board on application progress.
