Deon briefed commissioners on progress with Duvant Architects and the city-hall remodel working group. The team prioritized accessibility and public-safety improvements and intends only modest infrastructure changes while making the building more efficient. "We were right in that $500,000 kind of budget we talked about with this project from the get-go," Deon said, describing the figure as a preliminary, cursory estimate provided by the architects.
Architects have produced rough layout drawings and renderings and have broken down costs to show options such as updating the front entrance or making bathrooms accessible. Staff said they will refine wants versus needs and present more detailed plans and renderings for commissioner review in the coming weeks.
The remodel working group includes commissioners and staff and has met with the architects twice to set priorities. No formal contract or funding appropriation was proposed at the meeting; staff framed the $500,000 as a planning estimate that will be refined before any appropriation is sought.
