Onslow tourism outlines summer 'Beach Breaks' schedule and sea-turtle safety tips

Salem Clark, director of Onslow County Tourism, announced a new summer series of "Beach Breaks" events that will run Wednesdays from June 24 through Aug. 5 from 9–10 a.m., featuring local organizations such as the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital, the county museum and local festivals.
Clark emphasized simple steps beachgoers can take to protect nesting sea turtles: fill in any holes dug on the beach, remove beach equipment and coolers at the end of the day, and use red or amber lights at night so hatchlings are not drawn inland by artificial lighting. She asked visitors to respect orange-taped sections on the beach, which mark nests being monitored by volunteers.
Clark directed visitors and residents to Onslow.com for event calendars and dining recommendations and urged visitors to book short-term rentals early for peak summer dates.
